My Background

I was a partner in Gottesman Jones & Partners, a U.S. international law firm with offices in New York and London specializing in U.S. and international corporate, financial and tax law. Representative clients included Citicorp/Citibank, Security Pacific Corporation, Coca-Cola Export Corporation, Fox-Pitt, Kelton (Investment Bankers), Lease Financing Corporation, Source Perrier S.A., Olivetti, Raleigh Bicycles, Vivitar, Young & Rubicam.

In private practice, I have been lead counsel in completing over $1.2 billion in mergers and acquisitions, as well as over $600 million in corporate finance transactions and private placements.

I was also General Counsel, co-founder and a major shareholder of Tracker Network PLC, a start-up technology company taken public on the London Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of over $180 million.

Other professional highlights

• As Vice President and General Counsel for Halco Mining, a consortium of international aluminum companies led by Alcoa in a mining joint venture with the Republic of Guinea in West Africa, I completed over $250 million in financings from the African Development Bank and commercial banks for infrastructure projects and mine expansion.
• As Vice President and General Counsel for Citicorp Leasing International, I pioneered Citicorp's leasing and equipment finance activities in Europe, completing over $500 million in cross-border financings for industrial plant, ships, aircraft and other big ticket items of capital equipment.
• As a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. State Department, I represented U.S. interests at our embassies in Senegal, Mauritania and Belgium. On assignment in Washington, D.C., I advised on negotiating international agreements for world trade in agricultural commodities.
• My published works on legal and financial matters have appeared in leading newspapers and law journals, and I am a columnist on corporate law for the San Diego business newspaper The Daily Transcript.
